How not to relax

Well, we finally managed to get the ark ship shape enough to go off for a short break, somewhere not too far away with a first class spa, and we were looking forward to enjoying a few well deserved days of complete relaxation, when on the first day disaster struck.... Noah slipped on a patch of water (you'd think he was immune to slipping in puddles) and broke his ankle quite badly. And that was the end of the break away, goodbye relaxing holiday, hello immobility, discomfort and frustration :(… Continue

Early spring

I can hardly believe its March tomorrow, time really files. With spring weather hopefully just round the corner I expect Noah will be abandoning the thermals and starting to plan garden activities again. The grass hasn’t actually stopped growing all winter, probably due to global warming its been growing slowly and is now almost long enough to feed a small herd of goats. We don’t actually have a herd of goats, so the mower will have to be dusted off and oiled / sharpened ready for the first gra… Continue

Poorly Kitten

Well, the little kitten has just been ill again, poor thing. When she arrived here at twelve weeks old, she was suffering from a protozoal infection and she was really quite poorly for her first few weeks with us, I won’t go into details in case you’re eating or enjoying a nice cup of tea, but I have to say that, under the circumstances, long shaggy fur was definitely a disadvantage. We finally managed to get her well, thanks to the vet and a trial and error approach to her food (she developed… Continue

Mouse Attack!

I woke to the sound of early birds and the thin light of a November dawn and wandered half asleep and barefoot into the kitchen to put the kettle on to boil. That is when the drama began. I have rather superior pet cat, or at least she thinks she is superior; she wouldn't want to get her paws dirty - if you know what I mean. This particular morning she wasn't sitting in her usual place waiting impatiently for breakfast, instead she was sitting in front of the wine rack, which for reasons too com… Continue

Elizabethan collars and cats

Years ago, when I had my last kitten spayed, she was virtually back to normal after twenty four hours, and, apart from a small bald patch, you wouldn’t have known that anything had happened. So, when I took my new kitten to be spayed recently I had no worries, because I expected it to be just the same as last time.

But how wrong I was, after surgery she came back sporting a big white plastic Elizabethan collar. I asked if i

Keeping animal nails / claws in trim

Its something I've been pondering for a while, what is the best way to keep your pet dog or cat (or other animal's) nails short? Years ago I had a lovely, intelligent Sheltie who used to gnaw his ... Continue
